Sources and figures

Rules, formats and eligibility criteria are taken from the body that sets them. Where a rule has changed recently, we say when it changed. Figures we cannot verify are left out; we do not estimate a number into an article to make a sentence work.

Photographs

Photographs come from free repositories, principally Wikimedia Commons, and every caption names the photographer and the licence. We do not take images from other publications' coverage.

Corrections

Corrections are made on the page and noted. If a piece is wrong in a way that changes its conclusion, we say so at the top rather than editing quietly.

Archive material

Pages published on this domain before the current desk are kept online and marked as archive. They are not rewritten to fit current views, and personal contact details of the earlier authors have been removed at their reasonable expectation of privacy.

Paid material

Paid links and contributed placements are labelled. Editorial sections are not for sale, and no advertiser sees a piece before publication.
