The Victorian Minister of Sport, Hugh Delahunty, announced a $100,000 grant to the Shire of Golden Plains to support the construction of a new facility for football in Bannockburn on Sunday 17 June. There will be all weather pitches for soccer, hockey and other sports, along with the associated infrastructure at the new Bannockburn Recreation Centre. The Shire of Golden Plains is putting up $363,000 towards the project which will enable the new Golden Plains Soccer Club to have its own home ground for the first time. Thanking the minister and the shire, club president Anthony Vanjek, outlined the way in which afternoon fun and fitness sessions at Bannockburn Primary School had evolved into the area’s first football club. Now it has Under-7s, Under-9s and an Under-13 girls team playing in the Geelong competition.
